Welcome to DORCHESTER COUNTY

Established in 1897, Dorchester County was formed from land previously located in Colleton County. The name “Dorchester” was indirectly derived from Dorchester, England by way of Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Dorchester County boasts award-winning school districts and one of the longest free-flowing blackwater rivers in North America. Dorchester County’s natural beauty and unwavering sense of community are what makes it the best county in South Carolina to build a business and raise a family.

Alternative Teaching Routes

Do you want to become a teacher and join the community of educators making a difference each day in the lives of students? 
 
Would you like to grow and learn as an educator through personalized learning and individualized coaching support? 

Carolina Collaborative for Alternative Preparation, CarolinaCAP, is a non-degree program leading to full licensure for candidates. It is a collaboration among South Carolina School Districts, the University of South Carolina, and the Center for Teaching Quality with the goal to create a high quality alternative pathway into teaching that marries the expertise of local teachers, schools, and districts with non-profits, ed tech companies, and institutions of higher education.

TeachSC, is a program that provides free support to anyone who’s thinking about becoming a teacher. 

When you sign up, you get perks like 1-on-1 coaching to help you decide the right certification preparation pathway for you, up to $100 back in fee reimbursements towards expenses related to applying to a program (including testing and fingerprints), and a chance to win a regional $1,000 scholarship! Are you ready to become a certified teacher this year?

The South Carolina Teachers program is state-approved and trusted by districts and successful teachers alike. They help you build the necessary teaching skills and strategies to feel confident in your own classroom. Upon completion of the program requirements, you will be fully certified to teach in South Carolina
